Saint-Aulaye: an authentic bastide in the heart of Périgord Vert
MEDIEVAL CHARM
AND UNSPOILED NATURE IN THE GREEN PÉRIGORD
Founded in 1288 by Pierre Brémond, Saint-Aulaye is the only bastide town in the Périgord Vert region. Perched on a hillside overlooking the Dronne River, the town boasts a rich architectural heritage. Among the highlights are the 12th-centuryRomanesque church of Sainte-Eulalie, listed as a historic monument, and the 15th-century ramparts that bear witness to its medieval past. The Château de Saint-Aulaye, built in the 10th and 11th centuries, overlooks the river and now houses the town hall.
The town also boasts two museums: the Musée du Cognac, which traces the history of local production, and the Musée du Pastel, dedicated to this dye plant.

Throughout the year, Saint-Aulaye offers a wide range of cultural and festive events. The Foire de la La Laitière, of medieval origin, is held twice a year and is listed as an intangible cultural heritage site. The Spicy Music Festival, held every summer, livens up the castle terraces with a variety of concerts.
The commune is also committed to preserving its heritage, as evidenced by its Petite Cité de Caractère label obtained in 2015.
