Capital of the Périgord Blanc region, Périgueux is a city with a rich past, marked by more than two millennia of history. Awarded the “Ville d’art et d’histoire” (City of Art and History) label in 1985, Périgueux boasts 53 listed historic monuments, testifying to its exceptional heritage.
The town is made up of two major historic districts: Vesunna, the ancient Gallo-Roman city, and Puy Saint-Front, the medieval and Renaissance heart of the town. Both offer a unique architectural and cultural diversity in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

A remarkable architectural heritage
One of Périgueux‘s jewels, the Cathedral Saint-Front stands out for its Romanesque-Byzantine architecture and its Greek cross plan topped by five domes. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998 as part of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, it is a powerful symbol of the city.
The Vesunna Museum, designed by architect Jean Nouvel, is built on the remains of a Gallo-Roman domus. It offers an insight into the daily life of the Petrocores, the region’s ancient inhabitants.
The Tour Mataguerre, the last vestige of the medieval ramparts, offers a panoramic view of the town and its surroundings. It is open to the public and provides a privileged vantage point for observation.
