La Dordogne Verte, camping in the wild and natural Périgord Vert!
A natural setting
for authentic vacations
The Périgord Vert owes its nickname to the abundance of vegetation, with forests, hills and valleys giving the panorama a green setting in a rural setting.

The flower-filled woods and gardens around La Dordogne Verte campsite
Not far from the Dordogne Verte campsite, you’ll be able to enjoy the varied landscapes of the region, and meet endemic species such as the Cistude, a turtle, and protected species such as the European mink.
A vast wilderness
on the campsite’s doorstep
The Double forest
This ancient forest estate stretches over 50,000 hectares between the Dronne and Isle rivers. The monks of Echourgnac Abbey helped save it by draining and rehabilitating the land, which had become marshy due to over-exploitation. The origin of its name “noiraude” or “Dubula” in Gallic probably comes from the dark color of the oak leaves. Its varied tree species contribute to its rich bio-diversity. You can visit the 3 villages that have settled here: Saint-André-de-Double, Saint-Christophe de Double and Saint-Michel-de-Double.
A magical world of art,
nature and imagination
The Doublorigènes park
A veritable open-air museum on the edge of the Double forest, perfect for an afternoon out with the family. It’s a garden of art and nonchalant leisure, a former family orchard that’s been repurposed and populated by imaginary creatures, the Doublorigènes, supposed to represent the first inhabitants of the forest. Now extinct, their benevolent spirits guard the place, and you’ll be able to meet them, staged in a green and enchanting setting, and many traditional games, shows and animations are proposed during the summer period. Circus arts courses are also organized here.
You can find out more about this year’s program and reserve places on the Doublorigènes website.

The lakes and ponds of Périgord Vert
Greenery meets water in the Périgord Vert, with the region’s abundant springs feeding a number of ponds and lakes.

Le grand étang de la Jemaye
Situated in the heart of the Double forest massif, this is a vast complex of 6 connected ponds. Dedicated to bathing and water sports, the site has been designed to harmoniously combine public access with the protection of flora and fauna.
A number of edutainment facilities raise visitors’ awareness of the richness of the natural environment, including a number of rare species endemic to wetland biomes.
La Jemaye beach offers supervised swimming in summer, and picnic and restaurant facilities. A signposted path takes you to the Parcot farm, another jewel in the Double’s crown.

The blue lakes of Guizengeard
In the Double Saintongeaise forest, not far from Brossac, you can take the “Ballade des Lacs Bleus”, at Chez Thomas.
Between 1975 and 2013, white clay mining profoundly altered the forest biotope, rendering the surrounding landscape supernatural. The white clay extracted from these quarries, kaolin, was used in a number of fields, including porcelain, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and tile-making.
Since the end of the
operation, nature has reclaimed its rights, and the quarry is now a 40-metre-deep lake. However, the acidity of the soils in the various geological layers prevents aquatic life from settling in. As a result, no suspended matter can alter the natural color of the water, making it limpid and transparent, giving it its turquoise to azure hue.
